Nationally significant for wildlife. Ponds recognised by British Dragonfly Society for hosting incredible variety of dragonfly species. Designated as Special Protection Area (SPA) for birds, part of Thames Basin Heaths SPA. Forest management creates suitable habitat for breeding nightjar, Dartford warbler, and woodlark. Favourite spot for ground-nesting birds.
